This looks like Winter, but it is a Summer Climb. Here, they are on the old snows left near the Summit. Including Fuji, Ponting climbed several volcanoes in Japan. His views of these climbs were among hundreds of unique images from all over the island nation. He traveled the world while working for three of the largest Stereoview publishers in the United States, and later gained great fame as the expedition photographer on Robert Scott's ill-fated trip to the South Pole. This stereoview was taken during a 1906 photo-excursion, on what was probably his last of many ascents of Mt. Fuji.
